REDUCING THE LENGTH OF STAY (LOS)
HOSPITAL OR NURSING HOME
Improving and reducing length of stay (LOS) improves financial, operational, and clinical outcomes by decreasing the costs of care for a patient. It can also improve outcomes by minimizing the risk of hospital-acquired conditions.
IRVSAM HOME HEALTH CARE
Rehabilitation services and programs are as unique as the individual in need and the ailment they suffer from. The purpose is to return a patient back to a normal, healthy condition, whether it is following an illness, injury, surgery or certain disorders.
Wound care is important for wound healing. Wound care can prevent more serious complications from occuring. Wound dressings, collagen-specific enzymes, sulfa antibiotics, and antiseptics are used to prevent infection and to speed healing.
The practice of administering medication involves providing the patient with a substance prescribed and intended for the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of a medical illness or condition.
Special Diets are meal plans that control the intake of certain foods or nutrients. It is part of the treatment of a medical condition and are normally prescribed by a physician and planned by a Registered Dietician. A therapeutic diet is usually a modification of a regular diet.
Skilled nursing facilities, oftentimes referred to as nursing homes, are residential facilities where patients can receive skilled nursing services 24 hours a day. Medicare will pay for skilled nursing facility services if a physician has deemed that a patient requires skilled nursing care and the following services will help patients meet their health goals.
Psychiatric nursing is unlike any other kind of nursing. You cannot fix depression like you fix a broken leg, and the rest, ice, elevation and compression method isn’t going to do much for recurring panic attacks. But as a psychiatric nurse, you can offer the understanding and empathy a patient needs to begin healing.
Mental illness is arguably one of the most challenging illnesses to treat. It’s tough to detect for many and while attitudes are shifting, some still attach a stigma to seeking treatment. Add in the fact that there is not always a clear, uniform path to recovery, and it’s easy to see how psychiatric nursing can bring some unique challenges, and rewarding moments.
Injections are among the most common health care procedures, with at least 16 billion administered in developing and transitional countries each year.[2] Of these, 95% are used in curative care or as treatment for a condition, 3% are to provide immunizations, and the rest are used for other purposes, including blood transfusions.[2] The term injection is sometimes used synonymously with inoculation, but injection does not only refer to the act of inoculation. Injections generally administer a medication as a bolus (or one-time) dose, but can also be used for continuous drug administration.[3] After injection, a medication may be designed to be released slowly, called a depot injection, which can produce long-lasting effects.
IV or intravenous therapy refers to a therapy that delivers fluid into veins in the body. IV therapy works by using an injection with a syringe or via infusion, often referred to as a drip. IV therapy is the fastest way to deliver medications, blood products and more into the bloodstream to help with various health conditions, dehydration and blood transfusions.
